The Next Layer of the Internet

The next layer of the internet will not be defined only by faster pages, larger platforms, or more automated interfaces. It will be defined by systems that understand context: who is asking, what they already know, what they are trying to build, and which signals are trustworthy.

For years, the web was organized around pages and links. Search engines made that world usable by ranking documents. Social networks reorganized it around people and feeds. Now AI is pushing the internet toward a third shape: persistent agents, memory, semantic context, and tools that can act across services.

That shift creates a new responsibility for builders. We need infrastructure that is useful without becoming opaque, intelligent without becoming manipulative, and personal without trapping people inside closed systems. The next layer should make people more capable, not merely more dependent.
